The Farmingdale Hawks 11-year-old team started their season off with a hard fought win over a difficult Elmont Cardinal team 20-12. Farmingdale was the first to strike after Lance Stuart ran a 30-yard sweep to get the Hawks inside the 10-yard line. Willie Warren ran in the first touchdown of the year by running off right tackle for two yards. Elmont fought back with a touchdown but failed to convert the extra point leaving the score at 7-6. After each team failed to get anything going, Farmingdale's defense pushed back Elmont's offense and forced it to give the ball up on downs at the 10-yard line. The Hawks took full advantage of the situation and scored two plays later when Stuart ran behind Ken Reid, the left tackle, scoring the touchdown and giving Farmingdale a 13-6 lead. The Elmont Cardinals would not give up and scored again making it 13-12 in the fourth quarter. Farmingdale then put the game away when Stuart ran a 37-yard sweep for the final touchdown of the game. After converting the extra point the final score was 20-12 Farmingdale.

Stuart led the offense with 103 yards rushing, followed by quarterback Sean Ficken with 19 yards, Kyle Hoglund 13, Willie Warren 6. Also working hard in the backfield were quarterback Brian Alfieri, Charlie Starke, Kevin Zorovich and Michael Hughes. The offensive line did an outstanding job against Elmont; Chris Padovano, Ken Reid, Tim Lanahan, Anthony Venezia, Lenny Mormino, Scott Bergersen, Keith Castaldi, Tom Gannon and Joe Marve.

Defensively, Farmingdale was led by Charlie Starke who had seven tackles, followed by Kyle Hoglund with six, Lance Stuart four, Ken Reid four, Anthony Venezia three, Lenny Mormino two, Derek Jones two, Kevin Zorovich two, with Willie Warren, Tim Lanahan, Kevin Testa, Chris Padovano, Joe Marve and Michael Tereshko each with one tackle. Other players who helped on the defensive front were Michael Hughes, Stephen Johnsen, Joe Ziti, Jimmy Restaino, Scott Bergersen, Charlie Kaval, Thomas Gannon, Justin Pistoia, Jordon Mosca and Matt Vittorio.

The 11-year-old team will host a very difficult team next week at Howitt Jr. HS Sunday afternoon at 12:30 against Hempstead. The team asked that the community please come out and support them.
