An Amityville man was stabbed to death as he left a topless bar in East Farmingdale early last Friday morning, police reported.
The victim, 23-year-old Nelson Sarceno, was attacked in the parking lot of Cafe Royale, located at 101 Route 109, at approximately 3 a.m.
"He was accosted in the parking lot as he left the place by at least two people, and stabbed multiple times," said John Gierasch, commanding officer of the Homicide Squad for Suffolk County Police.
The assailants fled the scene in an unknown vehicle. No one else was injured in the attack, and it appears that Sarceno was targeted, the commanding officer noted.
Police believe that the victim may have had gang affiliations. As part of the Homicide Squad's continuing investigation of the crime, they are pursuing information about this, although Gierasch stressed that, so far, this is merely speculation. "That's not automatically to say that we necessarily think this was gang-related. It's just, it may be that the victim had gang affiliations," he said.
The victim's family, for the most part, is located in California, according to police. They could not be reached for comment.
According to Commanding Officer Gierasch, the location of the murder is not a particularly high-crime area, to the best of his knowledge. "It's a topless bar that generally draws a crowd, but it's not known to be a seedy area, necessarily," he said.
He added, "We have no suspects at this time, and the motive isn't known either."
Police are looking for the public's help in finding Sarceno's murderers. Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to call the Homicide Squad at (516) 852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. Police noted that all calls will be kept confidential.
