Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th senate district - Merrick) announced this week that he is seeking $5,000 in New York State Senate Grants for the East Farmingdale and South Farmingdale Fire Departments to aid in the purchase of fire safety equipment.

"Our community firehouses must be equipped with proper safety equipment, which will help save lives and protect the lives of our firefighters who leave their homes and families on a moment's notice when responding to emergencies," Fuschillo said.

"These devoted men and women risk their lives on a daily basis to save the lives of others. It is a pleasure for me to seek funding in an effort to support and honor these dedicated volunteers so that they may continue providing this necessary service to the community," Fuschillo continued, adding that he is working closely with Chiefs Greg James of East Farmingdale and Carl Ferrigno of South Farmingdale to secure funding for each department.

Senator Fuschillo is an outspoken advocate for firefighter safety and has introduced legislation that will give firefighters displaying a flashing blue light the right-of-way while responding to calls of distress.

Senator Fuschillo also announced that he is seeking two $5,000 New York State Senate grants for two organizations, the Senior Citizens Club of Farmingdale and the St. Killian Seniors.

"The senior citizens of Farmingdale, many of who have lived in the community for several years and raised their families here, gather together at their clubs to share in their friendship and enjoy activities together," said Fuschillo. "This grant will help pay for operational costs including bus transportation for club trips, lunches, and supplies for activities such as arts, crafts, and games."

"Senior citizen organizations make possible a place where seniors can share their time and maintain their independence and I am pleased to have the opportunity to seek this grant on their behalf," he concluded.
