As a result of the compassion of the residents of Farmingdale and all Long Islanders, my recent Domestic Violence Cell Phone Drive was a tremendous success. This past week, I delivered over 1,500 used cell phones to the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Working in cooperation with Bell Atlantic Mobile's 'Wireless at Work' Recycling Program, the used cell phones have been programmed to dial 9-1-1 and will be distributed to domestic violence victims. These phones will allow survivors of domestic violence to leave their homes and go about their day to day activities with the peace of mind knowing that law enforcement is just a phone call away.
I also wish to thank Senator Kemp Hannon, my New York State senator colleagues from Nassau County and the MTA police for helping me collect phones; and the Massapequan Observer and Cablevision for their efforts to help me promote the cell phone drive.
Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr.
New York State Senator
