Senator Kemp Hannon (6th S.D.) announced this week that preliminary strategies to manage traffic congestion on Long Island are currently posted on a web site sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation.
These strategies are derived from the Long Island Transportation Plan-LITP 2000, a two-year study initiated in 1997 to develop solutions to relieve traffic congestion and improve the movement of people and goods throughout the region. It is based on technical transportation planning and analysis and public input.
"I encourage Long Islanders to familiarize themselves with LITP 2000 and help devise efficient, safe, economical and accessible transportation choices that will benefit us all in the 21st century," Hannon said.
The general public can log onto the study's web site (www.LITP2000.com) to review the study progress, find out about upcoming public meetings and events and direct comments or questions to the study team. There is also a LITP 2000 Study telephone hotline, 1-888-670-LITP.
