We've all heard and seen the devastating effects of anger and frustration among our youth - most recently, in the horrifying incidents of school violence and threats of violence that have dominated news headlines.

Just as these have inspired feelings of fear and helplessness, the efforts of YES to open a new and improved community center have inspired hope.

The agency has worked for over 20 years to counsel troubled youth and their families, and sincerely wants to do more. But they need the local community's help.

It has become increasingly evident that due to increased economic and societal demands now on American parents, and the resulting lack of guidance for children, too many of our youth are getting lost. We all must take greater responsibility for setting the younger generations in the right direction. The positive social, recreational and vocational outlets that would be provided by an expanded community center would help achieve that goal.

The campaign by YES Community Counseling Center to acquire a new building is a worthwhile one, and should be supported. Organizers are seeking volunteers and sponsors for the community center project and can be reached at 799-3203 or 777-4850.
