The Farmingdale Flames, of the PAL Division I Senior Conference guaranteed at least a first place tie for the conference championship with a convincing 15-8 win over a very talented Huntington team. The team remains undefeated at 6-0 with just two games remaining.

Team co-captain Meaghan Fitzpatrick led her team to victory with four goals, her tenacious defense, and ground ball pick-ups. Julia Ryan played her best game of the year, scoring three goals that resulted from her speed, athleticism, and dodging ability. Lauren Cohen played an outstanding game, contributing two goals and two assists. Kim Hillier, Natasha Coyle, and Krista Pellizzi each had a goal and an assist. Co-captain Joanna Venditto and Katie Quinn each had one goal. Venditto also led the defense that repeatedly stopped Huntington attacks on the Farmingdale goal with effective and smothering double teams. Alison Robino had two assists, while Kathleen O'Malley, Katie Pullen, Jessica Miller, and Meghan Fanning each had one assist apiece to round out the Flames scoring.

Coaches Joe Fanning and Tom Fitzpatrick agreed that this was a total team effort and probably the best game the girls have played to date. Goaltender Diana Beltrani responded in the second half, with six saves for a game total of eight, which was the margin of victory for Farmingdale. Lauren Ciccolella, Krista Daniello, and Jessica Patane played very well on both ends of the field the entire game, adding numerous loose ball pick-ups to keep the ball in Farmingdale sticks and cement the victory. Jackie Marcel, Gina Messina, and Emily Fortunato arrived late to the game, but their hustle and determination made a big difference in the second half when it was sorely needed.

Farmingdale got off to a quick two-goal lead on Fitzpatrick's and Cohen's first goals, but Huntington scored the next two a minute and a half apart to even the score. The Flames regained a two goal lead on Ryan's first goal of the game, assisted by Fanning, and Fitzpatick's second. The Flames remained in front scoring three goals to Huntington's two in the last six minutes of the first half to take a precarious 7-4 lead at half-time.

The second half was all Farmingdale's as they dominated Huntington, scoring eight goals to Huntington's three. The second half domination was a result of superior Farmingdale hustle, defense, ground ball play, team passing, and overall athleticism.

Coach Joe Fanning wished to congratulate Meaghan Fitzpatrick, Krista Pellizzi, Joanna Venditto, and Nicole Rosario on being selected to the Long Island Under 15 girls team, which will represent the Island in the United States Lacrosse National Youth Festival in the Albany area in late June. The girls tried out for the team with girls from 15 other Long Island communities. Only Farmingdale placed four girls on the team, which is a credit to them and the entire Farmingdale girls lacrosse program.

The Farmingdale PAL Spirit, the third and fourth grade team, guaranteed themselves a finish in the top three places in the division with a hard fought 13-10 victory over Massapequa, in the only home game played at East Memorial School, Farmingdale, Saturday.

The team is still tied for first place with Lynbrook and Wantagh, with a 6-1 record and only one game to go.

Farmingdale took an early three-goal lead, and at the end of the first quarter was in front 4-1. The second quarter was a lot tighter with Farmingdale just barely outscoring Massapequa 4 to 3. This gave the Spirit an 8-4 half-time lead.

The third quarter was evenly played. Farmingdale scored the first goal of the quarter to go up 9-4, but Massapequa stormed back to get within two at 9-7. The Spirit came back with two goals in the closing three minutes to go back on top 11-7. In the final quarter Massapequa outscored Farmingdale 3-2, but it was too little too late as Farmingdale won its sixth game of the season.

The Spirit scoring was once again led by its team captain, Kristen Jones, who had four goals and one assist. Kristen DiLiello had her best game to date by scoring two goals and playing some decisive defense. Lauren Broten also had her best day scoring a goal and an assist. Brittany Tuzzolo, Brenna Dugan, Allison Laudage, Melissa Maier, and Brittany White each had one goal. Katie Wood rounded out the scoring with a nice assist on White's goal.

Jenna Block had her usual outstanding game in the midfield with good passing and hustle. Chelsea Bianco, Alyssa Dorsy, Jessica Irving, Julianne Cona, and Lauren Principato all did well offensively and defensively, making big contributions to their team's victory.

Farmingdale's goaltending duties were shared again by Alyssa Dorsey and Brenna Dugan. Dorsey played the first half and her work in goal helped the team take the half-time lead. Dugan then entered the game and made five good saves which allowed her team to complete its victory.

The Division II Farmingdale senior team and the Farmingdale Bullets, from the division 1 junior conference, unfortunately did not play. The Northport senior team and the Manhasset junior team both forfeited to their respective Farmingdale opponents. The Bullets are now 5-0-2 while the senior B team is now 3-4.

The 5th and 6th grade "B" team stayed unbeaten with an 11-8 victory over Lynbrook.

Nine goals were scored in the opening quarter of this rain-soaked competition. Lynbrook took the early lead by controlling the face-offs and scoring 5 goals in the first quarter. Farmingdale worked hard and kept the game close by scoring 4 of their own. Stacy McPartland had 2 goals, Jenna Celano and Leanne Darcy each had 1.

Farmingdale defensive coverage tightened-up, and with excellent goaltending by Julianna Kirk, shut Lynbrook out in the second quarter. This allowed Farmingdale to tie and take the lead with 2 more goals by McPartland. Farmingdale led 6-5 at the half.

Farmingdale played the game with no bench relief; and many of the girls played positions they had not played before. The girls came together as a team and behind first time goaltender Jaclyn Venezia, who made several key saves on penalty shots, kept Lynbrook from scoring in the third quarter. Jenna Celano scored 1 goal and Stacy McPartland put in her firth goal of the day giving Farmingdale 8-5 lead.

Farmingdale extended their lead in the 4th quarter with goals by Taylor Smith, Heather Raso and Kristen Lavista. Lynbrook made a late charge, scoring 3 goals. Denise Mulhall knocked down shots and cut off Lynbrook's fast break attempts. Good hustle and clearing by Katie Lyons, Christine Sutherland and Diana Mextorf held Lynbrook off. Farmingdale's 11-8 victory brings their record to 7-0, with one game left.
