Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto will lead the boys and girls of summer to their field of dreams on Sunday, April 25, as Grand Marshal of the Farmingdale Baseball League's Opening Day parade. In addition, the Supervisor will receive the youth organization's coveted "

True Friend of Farmingdale" plaque.

"I'm extremely privileged and honored to be recognized by such a fine organization dedicated to teaching our young people about the importance of sportsmanship," Supervisor Venditto said. "I encourage all residents of Farmingdale and North Massapequa to come out, line the parade route and cheer for our young athletes in hopes of another terrific season."

The Opening Day Parade officially begins the 49th season of the Farmingdale Baseball League, a league which has served generations of boys and girls throughout the greater Farmingdale and North Massapequa communities. Approximately 1,000 children and teenagers, 6-18 years of age, will participate in the organization's softball and baseball teams this year.

The parade is scheduled to kickoff at promptly 2 p.m. from the softball field at Weldon E. Howitt Middle School in Farmingdale. Supervisor Venditto will lead the parade along Conklin Street, Main Street, Lambert Avenue and Kent Street. The parade will end at Ellsworth W. Allen Town Park on Motor Avenue, followed by the opening day ceremony and games.

As a highlight of the opening day ceremony, Supervisor Venditto will be presented with the Farmingdale Baseball League's "True Friend of Farmingdale" plaque. The award recognizes Supervisor Venditto's long-time and active involvement in Farmingdale sports. The supervisor has been a coach for several youth athletic teams, including soccer, basketball and softball.

In addition to Supervisor Venditto, other elected officials, local organizations and fire departments are expected to participate, including the Village of Farmingdale, South Farmingdale and North Massapequa fire departments.

In the event of rain, only the opening day ceremony will be held. It will take place in the Howitt Middle School Auditorium.
