The Farmingdale Shooting Stars took first place in the boy's U8 tournament at Island Trees on Feb. 14.
The boys played great soccer throughout the day. On their way to victory they defeated teams from Island Trees soccer (2-0), International Soccer Club from Queens (3-1), Syosset (2-0) and Oceanside (3-0). In the championship game against the International Soccer Club, both teams played an outstanding game. The Farmingdale club rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to win by a 3-2 margin. The lineup for the Shooting Stars: Tom Brosnan, Matthew Labriola, Joseph Lauterborn, Kenny Lutz, David Neuberger, Stephen Posa, Nicholas Sheehan and Ryan Stone (injured and unable to play was Danny Slane) played a great game against a very worthy opponent.
With both teams putting pressure on each other throughout the first half, it came down to a defensive battle in the second half, as Farmingdale did not allow a goal, while scoring the game winner two minutes into the second stanza. Coaches Neuburger, Posa and Labriola were very proud of how the boys reached down and found a way to win a very tough game.
