The Farmingdale Sharks boys U10 soccer travel team took second place at the Martin Luther King Day Tournament sponsored by the United States Soccer Academy at Miller Place.
The Sharks' record included victories over tough teams from Sachem, Auburndale and United States Soccer Academy as well as a tie with Smithtown. The Sharks showed good teamwork while playing aggressive soccer. During the five game format, they outscored their opponents 12 to 4, including two shutouts. Goal scorers for the Sharks included David Aitchison, Daniel DeRienzo, Carl Galiota, Timmy Hart, Matthew Kessler, P.J. O'Brien, and Ryan Wilson. Solid halfback and defensive contributions came from Matt Barrett, Luke Fellin, Justin Forry, Steven Gluf and Anthony Veveakis.
Four team members shared the goalkeeping duties.
Despite a strong effort, the Sharks lost in the finals to a team from Massapequa. Coaches Bill Barrett, Craig Gluf and Steven Kessler, as well as the team parents, were very proud of the players and their outstanding team effort during this tournament.
