The St. Kilian Stars seventh grade girls basketball team regained their winning form last Tuesday night with a convincing 31-13 victory over St. William of Seaford. St. William had entered the game with a record of 4-1 and the Stars' victory pushed their record to 7-2.

The Stars came out ready to play right off the opening tip-off. Their tough press forced numerous turnovers and by the end of the first quarter they were up 10 to 0. The Stars continued their tough pressure throughout the early part of the second quarter until the press was pulled off. The half ended with the Stars firmly in the lead 22-4. The team turned it down a little in the second half, which was evenly played with each team scoring nine points to finish out the game.

The St. Kilian scoring was led by Krista Daniello's 11 points. Kate Hogan scored 10 points shooting an excellent five for eight from the field. Diana Beltrani chipped in with four points on two for five shooting. Christina Tinney, Meg Fanning and Lisa Buono each contributed two points to the victory. Jessica Cohen was only able to play the first half, but really hustled well defensively coming up with a number of rebounds and steals. Caitlin Magri played outstanding defense and had about a half dozen quality rebounds. Beltrani, Daniello and Tinney also contributed to the Stars completely out rebounding the taller St. William team. Meg Fanning, Lisa Buono and Kate Hogan did a great job trapping the opposing guards on the press forcing St. William into turnovers time and time again in the first half. The Stars tough zone defense would not allow St. William to get off many decent shots and the rebounding prowess of St. Killian didn't give St. William many second shots.
