Marion Masek, a lifelong resident of LI, died at the age of 94 on Dec. 15, 1998 at Nassau County Medical Center. She was born Marion Elizabeth Lane to Mary Katherine and Francis Barton Lane on Sept. 8, 1904 in Hot Springs, VA, the oldest of five children. The family moved to Amityville in 1907 where she attended Amityville public schools, playing the position of forward on the high school basketball team from 1913-1916.

Upon graduating high school, she began her career as a legal secretary for attorney Dick Russel and ultimately became the court stenographer for the Honorable Judge Joseph Lebkuecher. She married Dr. Charles Masek DDS, a longtime Hicksville resident, in 1931 where the couple made their home until 1959 when they moved to Farmingdale. Upon Dr. Masek's death in 1979, Mrs. Masek moved to Los Angeles, CA, leading a bi-coastal life between her home in Los Angeles and a family home in Westbury during her remaining years.

Mrs. Masek will be remembered for her interest, concerns and contributions to the National Republican Party and was designated a delegate member of the Republican Trust in 1987. Mrs. Masek is survived by her sister, Dorothy Pettit of Seaford, and her daughter, Penny Lane of Beverly Hills, CA.
