This year's Farmingdale Senior Hawks team continued to play their hard nose brand of football.
Qualifying for this year's playoffs, the Hawks had to take on the #1 seeded team from Brentwood. In what turned out to be a tough defensive game, the Hawks came away with an 8-6 victory.
The Hawks came out on the first drive of the game, running and passing. Aided by some Brentwood penalties, they found themselves with a first and goal on the Brentwood 9-yard line. The Hawks pounded the ball inside the tackle, with blocking from Joe Bacani, Chris Harris, Mike Birch, Bob Manzolillo, Pat Friszell and Kevin Piechota. On fourth down from the two-yard line, quarterback Chris Hardgrove handed off the ball to Tom Chechilo, who fought off a tackle at the goal line and dove into the end zone. Kevin DeSimone converted on the two-point conversion, which was the eventual margin of victory.
This was a game that saw the Farmingdale defense stop Brentwood on the first and goal to go on the Hawks 2-yard line. On defense, Jonathan Shahabian played an excellent game, with some key tackles late in the game that secured its victory.
On Sunday, Nov. 29, the Senior Hawks were matched up against the Plainedge Bobcats in the Nassau-Suffolk championships. Although the Hawks put up a tough fight, the final score was Plainedge 30, Farmingdale 12.
The team extended thanks to the parents and cheerleaders for their support throughout the season.
