The U14 Farmingdale Jaguars on Nov. 22 completed their 1998 season with a tough 2-1 loss to the Oceanside Sharks.

The Sharks have proven to be the Jaguars' nemesis this season, handing them their only two losses of an otherwise outstanding season. According to Jaguars fans, the team showed amazing composure during a game of hard hits and non-sportsmanship like behavior from the other team and their parents.

The first half of the game was scoreless, with tremendous pressure from the Jaguar offense bouncing two shots off the goal posts. The only Jaguar goal came on a cross from Eric Blinder to Ed Wilpan in the second half to tie the score 1-1. The Sharks came back to score what was to be the winning goal. Exceptional defensive play came from Joe Restivo, who was relentless in the backfield, along with Derek Weinstein and Chris Kennedy. Kyle Hassett was outstanding in goal. A strong offensive game was played by Vinnie Russo, Jonathan Harris, T.J. Kelly and Rob Smith. Vinnie Misuraca, Eric Meyer and Joseph Napoli gave strong support mid-field.

The Jaguars end the season 7-1-2, and they noted that they look forward to another winning season in the spring. They also extended congratulations to their coaches, Don Smith and John Kennedy on a terrific season.
