Alberta May Berg Beierling passed away on Oct. 10, 1998 in San Marino, CA, at the age of 101. She was born May 13, 1897 to Elizabeth Hunt and Albert Hansen Berg on the Berg family farm on Hempstead Tpke., East Meadow. She attended Hempstead High School graduating as valedictorian in a class of 22 students, including A. Holly Patterson. She then attended Adelphi College in Brooklyn graduating with honors in 1920.

She was a resident of Farmingdale and a member of the Farmingdale Methodist Church for over 70 years. She became an English teacher in the Farmingdale schools where she taught for 35 years. She was a member of the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society, Delta Tau Alpha and the Eastern Star, serving as matron of the Bethpage Chapter and as a grand officer. A published poet, she was also a member of the Women's Press Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Beierling. She is survived by her son, George; her daughters, Lois Hartman and Emilie Ferrry; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Oct. 17 at the Farmingdale U.M. Church. Contributions can be sent in her name to the Farmingdale Public Library.
