Due to heavy rains on opening day, the Hornets were forced to play 4 games the following day. Their hard work, determination and versatile play paid off as they defeated tough competitors Garden City (4-0), Massapequa (2-0), Syosset (1-0) and East Islip (2-0), according to their coaches. Outstanding goalkeeping was provided by Brian Rossi (7 saves) through three and a half games, and Brian Scharp (3 saves) over half a game. Each also provided offense by scoring a goal apiece, and Scharp also had one assist. Excellent mid-field play by Matt LaCast (3 goals), Dan Hornedo (1 goal) Brian Harris (1 assist) and Greg Padden (2 assists) gave the Hornets total control of the matches.

The versatile play of Diego Marcial (1 assist), Andrew Fisher, Chris Holmes, Zahid Ali, Mark Wehlsen, Angelo Rodrigues (1 goal), Dom Ballas (1 assist), Nick Haas (1 assist) and Mike Marino (2 goals, 3 assists) frustrated the opposition. This kept the opposition's offensive play mostly on the defensive end of the field.

Farmingdale Hornets Coach George Mazzocchi noted that his team practiced hard and were determined to win. "They gave it their all, and it paid off," he said. He added that he would like to thank all of the parents for their sacrifices and hard work. He also thanked Assistant Coaches Bill Scharp and Mike Marino for devoting their time to the team.
