On Thursday morning, Aug. 12, 1998, our community lost a very special person, Kevin J. Armstrong. It's hard to believe that such a vital and vibrant spirit has been taken from us. You may remember Kevin as a scout leader or a coach when his children were young. I remember Kevin as an outstanding community leader who devoted 15 years of service to our children as school board president, vice president and trustee. He was driven by what was good for our children. Kevin never minced words and always spoke passionately about issues with substance. You always knew where you stood with him. On behalf of all the parents and children here in Farmingdale, I would like to thank his wife, Evelyn, his daughter, Doreen and his three sons, Gerarld, Brian and Kenneth for allowing us to have so much of his time as a board member. The time devoted to us was time spent away from his family, and we truly appreciate your sharing Kevin with us. He was an extraordinary man who accomplished extraordinary things in his forthright extraordinary way. Bringing to fruition our spectacular "Wall of Fame," located at Farmingdale High School, was Kevin's dream for the last ten years. Although he is gone, he will never be forgotten. Farewell Kevin, and because of your commitment to education, it's just as you always said: "Farmingdale is a great place to raise your children!"
