Carl A. Dittmeier, 71, of Mifflinburg, PA formerly of Farmingdale for more than 40 years, died on July 25, 1998. He was born Sept. 4, 1926 in McKeesport, a son of the late Carl and Elizabeth (Judermanns) Dittmeier. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Dittmeier was employed by the Farmingdale Post Office for 28 years as an administrator. He was also a licensed real estate broker and owned and operated an agency in Farmingdale. He formerly worked as a tug boat captain.

Mr. Dittmeier was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Lewisburg and was a greeter, usher and member of the Bishop's Lenten Appeal Committee. He was a former member of St. Kilian's RC Church where he was an usher, a member of the council and the Holy Name Society. He was a charter member, past president and past secretary of the Mifflinburg Historical Society, a member of the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum, Mifflinburg American Legion Post #410 and a Mifflinburg borough councilman of the west ward.

Mr. Dittmeier was a member and past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #2204, Farmingdale where he also held other offices. He was past president of the Farmingdale Youth Council, the Farmingdale Rotary Club and the NC Police Boy's Club. He received the Man of the Year award given jointly by the Farmingdale Lions, Rotary and Kiwanis. Mr. Dittmeier was co-organizer and captain of the Farmingdale Nautical Cadets of the Police Boy's Club for 17 years and a member of the Farmingdale Planning Board. He received an award from the LI Newspaper Association for his dedication to LI youth.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Bastian); his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia D. and George J. Carroll of Mifflinburg; his son Kenneth Carl of Babylon; three grandchildren, Cortney Dressler and Allison and Andrew Carroll; his great-grandson, Michael Carroll; and his brother and sister-in-law, Robert H. and Marie of Farmingdale.

Arrangements were made by the Gary H. Cronrath Funeral Home, Lewisburg. Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, Lewisburg.
