  • SPORTS: Over the Hill Gang Wrap-up - Week Nine

    Taormina Pizza returned to their winning ways with a 14-10 victory over Barco Construction. The Pizzamen were led by Andrew McTurk who hit two home runs and Mike Muscara who went 4 for 4 including a homer. John Weber and George Beaty (3 for 4) added homeruns as Taormina improves to 4-5. Tom Lanzarro pitched a great game and Charlie Kohl made a great defensive catch in the ninth inning to put Barco away. Bobby Olsen had a 4 for 4 night for Barco. In the other early game, Darien Press defeated Barboy 7-1 behind the pitching of Kris Solberg whose 16 inning shutout streak ended in the ninth inning. Darien was led by the hot bats of Rich DeGraff (2 triples) and Bobby Shubert (2 hits, 2 RBIs). George Krug added 2 key hits and 2 RBIs as Darien won its eighth game. Barboy's solid defense was led by middle infielders Larry Lutz and Bill Murphy who backed up the fine pitching of Eddie Butler with nice plays all game. Frank Pepe knocked in the only run with a long triple in the ninth and Bob Liese had a good night with the bat. FULL STORY
