The Farmingdale Lions completed the regular Spring 1998 Soccer Season, 6-0, in a competitive boys division of eight teams. Strong team passing, high scoring and a tough team defense contributed to this fine season. The Lions were a high energy team that gave a 100 percent effort every game. In the playoffs the Lions won all three games and finished with an overall final record of 9-0.
In the nine games the Lions' powerful offense (49 goals) was led by Matthew Kessler, Steven Morales and Zach Hendrickson. Ten of the team's 12 players scored goals ad/or contributed assists. Solid team defense yielded only nine goals and was anchored by Joseph DeClemente, Matthew Eckert and Nick D'Amico. Aggressive and consistent play at halfback and forward included Andrew Bosso, Chris D'Addario, Jonathan Lopresti, Chris Petitto, Nick Sahni and Willie Sinatra. The stingy goaltending duties were usually shared by Willie Sinatra and Jonathan Lopresti.
After their undefeated regular season the Lions faced strong competition in the playoffs. In a very competitive semifinal game the Lions won 4-2 on goals by Matthew Kessler, Steven Morales and Andrew Bosso. The final playoff game was between the Lions and the Metro Stars. This game proved to be an aggressive and hard-fought contest with the final score 3-0 on goals by Matthew Kessler, Steven Morales and Zach Hendrickson. This was a truly memorable season for the players, their parents and the coaches.
