Farmingdale's 16 and under girls softball tournament team started the summer off with a bang by winning their first two tournaments.
The first, the Cumberland Valley Regional ASA Qualifier was held in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania during the 4th of July weekend. The Farmingdale Aquafinas played 10 games over three days to come up from the loser's bracket and beat the previously undefeated Westminster, Maryland Rockets twice in the championship round to win the tournament. After dropping into the losers bracket Saturday with one loss, the Aquafinas needed to win back games on Sunday. In dramatic, storybook fashion, reflecting the character and determination of this team, the girls clinched the championship with a 2-out home run in the bottom of the 7th inning of the deciding game. By winning this tournament (which included eight elite teams from Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland) the Aquafinas qualified for the Nationals in Marietta, Georgia.
Last weekend, Farmingdale Baseball-Softball played host to a tournament at Allen Park. The Aquafinas relied on pitching, defense, and aggressive base running to win the tournament. The team noted that they would like to thank Farmingdale PAL and Mastic Softball Club for their participation and sportsmanship.
Hoping to make it three for three, the Aquafinas will visit Rhode Island for an invitational tournament at the end of July. The coaching staff noted that they would like to thank Farmingdale Baseball, Inc. for their continued support of girls softball, as well as the parents and players.
