The St. Kilian's CYO Farmingdale Athletics 14-year-old team opened their 1998 season back in May within the Federation of Amateur Baseball League (FABL). The FABL is the largest, most competitive league for a team to play in within this New York area. It is a league which consists of teams from Nassau and Suffolk County as well as New York City.
After a slow 0-6 start, the Athletics have rebounded to a 11-10 mid-season record and continue to become one of the more difficult teams to compete against within their FABL 14-year-old division. Superior defense compounded by an aggressive batting line up where all 14 players hit extremely well has contributed to their growing success.
On Wednesday, July 1, the Athletics leave for Charlotte, North Carolina where they will be competing in a 4th of July Invitational. The boys will be playing against different teams from all over the United States as they strive to be in the championship game that Sunday night.
The St. Kilian's Farmingdale Athletics team consists of Matt Bayen, Mike Cerar, Danny Disponzio, Paul Fioccola, Steve Gagliardi, Chris Hart, John Hughes, Rich Kerr, Chris Perez, Anthony Petrella, James Scarfo, Timmy Treubig, Chris Viscuso and Joe Viscuso. This team began practicing together back in January and continues with their dedicated efforts by playing approximately 5 games a week within the FABL as well as participating in additional tournaments.
