The 12 teams were back in action Friday night following the league's fifth rainout. Results from the games played June 19 included an exciting early game victory for Moby Drugs who defeated Thirsty Beverage 16-15. Paul Nardone knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for Moby's fourth win of the season. Thirsty fell to 1-4. J-2 Lounge continued its undefeated streak with a 14-3 win over Barco Construction. Jake Considine continued his outstanding pitching and was backed by Butch Flecker's home run. Offensive power by Dino Pasolini (3 for 4), Frank Miller (3 for 4) and Angelo Bellia (2 for 3) were more than enough for J-2's fifth straight win.

Bob Joyce pitched an outstanding game leading Ken's Fitness Centre to a 13-5 win over Barboy. Dom Bello added a long home run for the winners as they improved to 3-1-1. Barboy fell 1-3-1. Morgan Truck Body picked up their second win of the year by out slugging McCourt and Trudden 21-8. M&T was led by the fielding and hitting of Sal Ditroia who had a home run and went 3 for 3 with 5 RBI's. Sal also shone in the field with several fielding gems at third base. Tom Dursi went 3 for 4 and added 2 RBI's as M&T fell to 1-4.

In the late games, Buddy's Sandtrap improved their record to 3-2 with a convincing 16-6 victory over Taormina Pizza. The Sandtrap attack was led by Rookie Glen Olsen (3 for 5, 3 RBI's), Joe Fanning (3 for 3, 2 RBI's) and Barry Booth (2 for 3, 2 RBI's). Joe Fanning pitched a strong game holding the pizzamen scoreless for seven innings with outstanding defensive help from George Cohan. Ed Healy, Tom Fitzpatrick, Jim Johnson and Ed Obloj. Sandtrap was aided by the 12 walks it received as Taorimina drops to 2-4. Darien Press remained in frist place in the American League with a 22-2 win over Granny O'Shea's. Tom "T" Ball returned from the disabled list with a perfect 5 for 5 (3 RBI's) night. Jerry Murtha added 3 hits and 3 RBI's including a home run. George Darienzo (home run, 2 hits), Rookie Bobby Schubert (3 for 5), Mike Stein (3 for 5) and Tom Bailey (3 hits, 2 RBI's) rounded out Darien's attack. Kris Solberg was masterful on the mound carrying a shutout through seven innings and added 3 hits and 3 RBI's for the winners. O'Shea's offense was led by Andy Cohen, Bruce Kubart and John Streich as their record dropped to 2-2-1.

Last week's games had Taormina Pizza defeating McCourt & Trudden 27-8. Taormina was led by the 8 RBI night by Jim Nolan. Frank Horoszewski added a long home run. The pizzamen played outstanding defense anchored by shorstop Mike Muscara and first baseman Doug Dervin. Darien Press picked up their sixth victory of the year beating Thisty Beverage 14-3. Rookie Bobby Schubert hit a grand slam and knocked in 6 runs. Mike Stein (3 for3) and George Krug had perfect nights at the plate. Joe Traina added a home run for Darien. Benny Alberto and Rich Brancaccio had multiple hit games for Thirsty.

The middle games saw the J-2 express continue to roll with a 21-7 win over Morgan Truck Body. "Big" Hal Edelman was 5 for 5 and hit 3 home runs to pace the winners. Big nights by Frank Miller (4 for 5, HR), Butch Flecker (3 for 4, HR), John Esposito (3 for 4, HR) and Tom Corey (3 for 5, HR) kept J-2 undefeated. Moby Drugs picked up their fifth win of the year besting Ken's Fitness Centre 14-5.

In the late games, Barboy beat Granny O'Shea's 9-7 behind the big night by Eddie "the Chief" Butler who was 3 for 3 and was outstanding in the field. Keith Ferrara added a home run for Barboy. Frank Pepe returned to action 2 months after a "season ending" injury in the first game of the year. Barco Construction rallied for a 16-11 victory over Buddy's Sandtrap. Billy "Belly Flop" Stacks hit a grand slam to pace the winners. Also swinging hot bats were Bob Diamond, Bill White and Bobby Romano.

The League will take this Friday off and will return to action on July 10 with six inter-league games at Allen Park. The Over the Hill Gang players send a get well soon message to Darien's manager Sal Gioeli who is recovering at home from open heart surgery. His team, as well as the league, miss his presence at the games and hope to see him back in the dugout soon.
