June is such a wonderful month. It's the gateway to that most delightful of seasons, and each year we're confident that "this summer will be the best ever!" And why not? The weather outside's delightful, the report cards (we hope) won't be frightful, and if parents are insightful, well, the learning can continue through the summer.

Learning? Yes! Anyone who has ever marveled at the natural inquisitiveness of young children has recognized that individual learning doesn't stop at a certain time of day, or a certain time of year. For every member of the Farmingdale Federation of Teachers, part of the teaching missing is to instill a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge in the students who are entrusted to our care. As a parent you hold the key to keeping this spirit alive through the summer months.

Summer plans can be made with the children's educational needs in mind. A little special planning can add the spice of learning to your family's hectic summer calendar. Here are a few suggestions from the FFT for activities to keep children¬and their parents¬ learning and growing all summer long!

The library¬it's an invaluable resource for the entire family. And...it's air-conditioned! Check out the Farmingdale Public Library, 116 Merrits Road, 249-9090.

The theater¬you don't need to go to Broadway (although it's certainly a treat) when Long Island boasts excellent theaters with programs designed especially for kids. Call for details on special children's theaters at The Plaza Playhouse in Old Bethpage (694-3330) or Theater Three in Port Jefferson (928-9100).
