Gerald D. Allard, 93, of Sarasota, FL, died on May 14, 1998. He was born Nov. 6, 1904 in Putnam, CT. He was a coach and athletic director at Farmingdale State University from 1929 to 1966. Mr. Allard was a veteran of WWII and retired as Lt. Col. from the Army Reserve in 1964. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and received his masters degree from Columbia University.
Mr. Allard had a long and distinguished career in the field of athletics and education which began by lettering in three sports in college. He was a member of the Olympic Committee, the founder of the NY Institute Athletic Association, president of the National Junior College Athletic Conference, life member of the LI District Board of Basketball Officials, first recipient of the Farmingdale University Athletic Hall Hall of Fame and the namesake of the Allard Field House which was built with student and faculty contributions.
Mr. Allard was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Smith Allard; three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Burruss Allard; daughters, Jean A. Quinby of Kingston, TN and Nancy McNaughton of Rosiada, NM; son, Gerald D. Allard, Jr. of Alto, NM; and seven grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota. Services were held at St. Boniface Episcopal Chapel.
