Farmingdale's PAL 6th grade White lacrosse team beat a determined Merrick team 7 to 6 on Thursday, May 21. The team's record is 5-1 and is tied for first place. Farmingdale opened the scoring as Travis Filosa passed to a breaking Justin Connors who raced ahead of the Merrick defenders and scored 45 seconds into the game. Farmingdale would then score two unanswered goals; Adam Miklas scored on an assist from Travis Filosa and Travis Filosa scored unassisted. Merrick then scored again and Farmingdale's Billy Marino and Keith Naus dented the nets with unassisted goals. Merrick then scored another goal to make the halftime score 5-2. Farmingdale again had a four goal lead when Frankie Bates, playing crease, quick sticked a goal off a pass from Travis Filosa. Merrick would not fold; they scored two more goals to make the score 6-4. Danny Hushion answered, with a score off Travis Filosa's third assist of the game, at the one-minute mark of the fourth quarter. The score was Farmingdale, 7 and Merrick, 4. Merrick again came back with two more goals making the score 7-6 with one minute left in the game. Merrick would then have two more possessions in the Farmingdale offensive half of the field but could not get a shot on cage. The coaches knew the team had won even though the players didn't play their best game. Coach Ron Filosa felt Eric Brunner and Sean Starke were the difference. "Eric made some great saves on some hard shots and Sean played well against Merrick's top scorer." The team travels to Cold Spring Harbor on Sunday, May 31.
