The entire PAL girls lacrosse league began its spring season last weekend and three of the five Farmingdale PAL teams saw action.

The Farmingdale Senior White team, for 7th and 8th grade girls, started the day's action at their East Memorial home field last Saturday. It was an exciting and successful start with a 9-7 come from behind victory over an experienced Carle Place team. The girls got off to a sluggish start and were quickly down 2-0. However, the Farmingdale girls pulled themselves together and by half-time had fought back to just a one goal deficit, 6-5, in favor of Carle Place. Kate Hague and Nicole Rhodes led the first half comeback with two goals apiece.

In the second half, Farmingdale was the dominant team outscoring Carle Place four to one. Tri-captain Meaghan Fitzpatrick scored two of her game-high three goals in this half to help lead her team to victory. Caitlin Howard and Krista Pellizzi scored one goal apiece. Lauren Ciccolella and Daniella Pagnani each had an assist.

Kaitlin McInnis, Joanna Venditto, Caitlin Howard, and Meg Fitzpatrick performed brilliantly in shutting down the two top Carle Place scorers in the second half, and along with Gina Messina, Allison Rubino, and Christina Magri - continually came up with the loose balls to control the game and particularly the second half. Tri-captain Andrea Broesler aided the Farmingdale attack with some very strong play. Also playing well were Lisa Anselmo, Heather Murphy, Amy Gallino, and Melissa Strianese, with strong defensive and offensive play, particularly backing up shots and thus maintaining control of the ball. One of the biggest keys to the Farmingdale victory was the outstanding play of Nicole Rosario in the goal. Rosario stifled the Carle Place attack with 12 saves to almost single-handedly insure the Farmingdale comeback and win. Tri-captain Lindsay Howard was unable to play due to illness, but she was on the sidelines helping and supporting her team in their victory.

Later in the day on Saturday, the PAL Farmingdale Flames played their first game in the Junior Blue Division, for 5th and 6th grade girls. The team traveled to Port Washington and played outstanding lacrosse, dominating Port to earn a 10-1 victory.

Tri-captain Kate Hogan led the team in scoring, with four goals and an assist. Vicki Fanslow and Jessica Patane each had two goals and an assist. The remaining two Flames goals came from Patricia Santorelli and Lisa Dunne. Tri-captain Meghan Fanning and Lauren Cohen each had two assists, while Andrea McDonough had one assist. Fanning and Hogan handled the center draws and won almost all of them. Defensively, Farmingdale did a great job of covering the top Port player. Laura Canizio shadowed her to perfection and continually denied her the ball, while also making numerous interceptions and blocks. Canizio was the defensive player of the game for Farmingdale in a game that had outstanding team defense. Also playing a solid defensive and offensive game were Monica Daniels, Jennifer Ryan, Megan White, Jenna Principato, Jessica Miller and Diana Beltrani. The goal tending duties were handled extremely well by Beltrani and Fanslow.

The Farmingdale Senior Green team and the rookie team did not play. Kings Park was unable to field a team to play the Senior Green team on Saturday and the Rookies were rained out on Sunday.

The Farmingdale Junior White team had their first victory of the season on Saturday when they visited Carle Place. The Junior white team dominated Carle Place with a 12-2 victory. The Junior White team now has a record of 1 win and 1 loss, after dropping their first contest of the season on April 4 to an extremely strong Plainedge team 7-3.
