In an exciting championship game, the Farmingdale Rockets recently defeated the Knicks 23-16 to capture the 6th-7th grade Girls Intermediate Basketball Police Activity League (PAL) Title.
The Rockets jumped out to a 9-2 first quarter lead and never trailed in the game. Team defense and strong rebounding kept the first place Knicks from mounting a serious comeback.
After completing the regular season with a 10-2 record, the second place Rockets avenged their two regular season losses during the playoffs, when they prevailed over both teams who had earlier defeated them. They finished the season with an impressive 13-2 mark.
The regular season champion Knicks, who finished the regular season 11-1 (13-2 overall), had a great season, losing only two games - both to the Rockets.
Under the direction of coaches Steve Pares and Mike Stein, the Rockets improved each week and were playing total team basketball at the end of the season. The 6th and 7th grade Champion Rockets team members were: Jessica Byrne, Katie Hague, Katie Hogan, Stephanie Knock, Gina Mastadino, Gina Messina, Jessica Miller, Michelle Pares and Christina Tinney.
