Chris Ball of Farmingdale Youth Council (FYC) Wrestling Club traveled to Ithaca, NY this past weekend to compete in the sixth annual New York State Kid/Cadet Folkstyle wrestling championships. With all the tournaments going on, not only on Long Island, but throughout the state, this second week of March had become the busiest weekend of the season.
In only his second tournament of the year, and with so much wrestling offered, Ball elected to make the trip to Ithaca in order to compete on the state level. His hopes of bringing Farmingdale another state title fell a little short this time. Chris lost a tough match to a young man out of Rome, NY and had to settle for the bronze.
His very respectable third place left him just a little disappointed, but he feels that the experience he gained was well worth the trip, and is confident he will be able to apply this experience towards next year's meet. Back in 1996 when Chris took bronze in his first state tournament, he was able to polish it to gold the following year, and hopes, through hard training and dedication, to do the same next year.
Chris sends congratulations to all his fellow Farmingdale wrestlers.
