The featured speaker at the Tuesday, March 17 meeting of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Road Runners Club will be POBRRC's own Donna McMahon, who successfully completed the world class Hawaii Ironman Triathlon last fall. The meeting will be held at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, 999 Old Country Road in Plainview, starting promptly at 8 p.m. The general public is cordially invited to attend.
McMahon, a native of Farmingdale, was the first woman from New York State to cross the finish line of the 1997 Hawaii Ironman Triathlon, finishing the 2.5 mile ocean swim, 112 mile bike ride through the lava fields, and 26.2 mile run in 11 hours, 41 minutes.
Donna brings extraordinary running skills to her "tri" career. She has developed into one of the top female runners on Long Island, most recently finishing as the first woman overall at the Long Beach 4 Mile Snowflake Run and in 2 of the 3 race Long Island State Parks Winter Series of 5 Kilometer Races.
"We are thrilled to be able to welcome Donna to the podium this month," said POBRRC Vice President Mindy Lerner Davidson. She is a great athlete with lots to tell us, and she and her new husband Brian (who got married while in Hawaii for the Ironman) are two wonderful people."
