Warning Signs Erected on Turnpike
In response to a dangerous traffic situation on Hempstead Turnpike in Farmingdale, the New York State Department of Transportation has erected two warning signs in the area.
The signs alert motorists that the right lane of the turnpike ends just before the entrance ramp to the Bethpage Parkway South. Previously, there was no warning that the right lane ended, and motorists were forced to suddenly merge left or make a right turn onto the Bethpage Parkway. Nassau County Legislator Salvatore B. Pontillo recently called attention to the danger of this traffic situation, and along with State Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Nassau) and State Assemblyman Steven Labriola, had urged that it be corrected by some warning device.
Toy Drive Continues
The Village of Farmingdale for the past two weeks has been participating in the 50th annual Toys for Tots collection drive, administered by the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Village Hall on Main Street has been designated as the official drop-off point and individuals and organizations are encouraged to keep needy youngsters in mind by donating new unwrapped toys. Toys are needed for all ages and must be dropped off by Dec. 21. More information may be obtained by calling Village Hall at 249-0093.
