Bids for Electric Due Soon

Farmingdale Village officials expect that, by January, they will receive all bids from electricity providers for its proposed power utility. The bids are due during that month. Since a July referendum gave the village the approval to pursue the bids, the officials have been in touch with about 30 different power sources from out of state, according to Village Clerk-Treasurer John Giordano. The village's early projections were that it would be able to buy electricity at 3 to 3.5 cents per kilowatt. "The electric cost is about a third of the price that we'll be able to sell it for," said Giordano. The Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO) charges 17 cents per kilowatt for electricity. Giordano noted that a second referendum, which, if passed, would authorize the village to accept one of the electricity providers' offers, is expected to take place in late spring.

The church is located at 17 Cobb Place, behind the Farmingdale Jewish Center. Further information may be obtained by calling the church's office at 454-6471.

Youth Ministry to Hold Christmas Tree Sale

St. Kilian Youth Ministry is having their annual Christmas Tree Sale on Dec. 12, 13 and 14. The Christmas Tree Sale is an annual event where members of the community have a chance to buy fresh, live Christmas trees. This fundraiser helps the Youth Ministry program host many events. The sale will take place in the new parking lot across from St. Kilian Church on Conklin Street. "Please come by and pick out your family's Christmas tree, have a cup of hot cider, and sing a few carols with us," said Kimberly A. Irwin, youth minister for St. Kilian's. "You might even get a chance to see Santa Claus."

Toys For Tots Drive Begins

The Incorporated Village of Farmingdale is participating in the 50th annual Toys For Tots collection drive, administered by the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Village Hall on Main Street has been designated as the official drop-off point, and individuals and organizations from the community are encouraged to keep needy youngsters in mind by donating new unwrapped toys. Toys are needed for all ages and must be dropped off by Dec. 21.
