Pee Wees head to Super Bowl
The Farmingdale Hawks 7-8-year-old team will advance to the Nassau Suffolk Football League Super Bowl after recently defeating last year's champ Copiague 30-20. This sets the stage for the long-awaited rematch Sunday, against Levittown, who upset the Hawks on opening day 20-14.
The Hawks controlled the line of scrimmage all day and scored the first two times they had the ball. The Hawks' offensive line of Mitchell Dittmar, Brian Smolin, James Hogan, Joe DeClemente, Ryan Boyle, Matt Kwapisz and Chris Alfieri opened holes all day for the tremendous running of Jack Reynolds, 175 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and Joe Bagnasco, 90 yards and two touchdowns. Joe Bagnasco also kicked 2 extra points and Jack added 1. Nick Ryan led the way at fullback all day and Mike Lagalante was the field general at quarterback.
The swarming Hawk defense had its hands full all day containing the outstanding Copiague running game. The defensive line of Mitchel Dittmar, Joe DeClemente, James Hogan, Ryan Boyle, Joe Bagnasco and Matthew Kwapisz did their jobs and kept Copiague from getting outside most of the day. The linebacking trio of Jack Reynolds, Nick Ryan and Jeff Brackman and safeties Mike Lagalante and Jamel McCullough filled holes and gang tackled all day.
The tremendous team effort included Billy Allen, Wade Hults, Todd Kendrick, Eric McIntyre, Ryan Mosiello, Greg Simpson, Bryan Sutherland, TJ Soluri, Erik Georgoulikes, Evan Torrens and Robert Winnant. The coaching staff of Jay Boyle, Tom Bagnasco, Jack Reynolds, Nick Ryan and Charles Dittmar said they want to congratulate the boys for a great season no matter what happens Sunday. They said they also wish to thank the parents for all their support throughout the long season. Special thanks to team managers Sue DeClemente and Charlene Sutherland for all their help.
The super bowl will be dedicated to Mike Giordano, who broke his arm in a scrimmage the last week of the season. The coaches said that Mike, a first-year player, was instrumental to the Hawk's success during the regular season and will be with the team in spirit throughout the game.
