Panthers Clinch Second Place
The U11 Boys Soccer team, The Panthers, closed out the season in spectacular style, winning both of their games last weekend.
On Nov. 15, the boys squared off against the Elwood terminators. Farmingdale dominated most of the game, with Chris Shishko and Derek Wilson scoring two goals each for a 4-0 Panther win. Forwards Ray Perry (1 assist), Vito Messina (1 assist), Jesse Nofi, Russell Campbell and Shishko were unstoppable. Midfielders Wilson (2 goals), Kris Chan (1 assist), Kyle Dowd and Nick Switach beat Elwood to the ball throughout the game. Stopper Christian Toic anchored the midfield play and frustrated the Terminators all day. The defense of Jason Quereau, John Macaluso, John Forry and Kenny Petersen kept Elwood to 1 shot on goal. Nick DeRiso in goal enjoyed his second consecutive shut out.
On Nov. 16, The panthers traveled to Dix Hills to play the undefeated first place kickers. The Panthers controlled this game from the opening whistle. Switach scored an unassisted goal for a 1-0 halftime score. When the second half started, the Panthers were fired up and wanted desperately to win one for player Ray Perry, who went down with a broken collarbone in the first half. DeRiso, who played goal in the first half, scored from the right win with assists from Kyle Dowd and Vito Messina. A few minutes later, Shishko found the net with an assist going to DeRiso for a 3-0 win. The Panthers ended the season with three consecutive shutouts and a final record of 8 wins 2 losses, clinching second place in their Division 1 point behind Dix Hills. The coaches said they are proud of these talented boys from Farmingdale and are very optimistic about the spring season starting. They also thanked the parents.
