Saving the best for last is exactly what the Westbury High School Girls Varsity Swim Team did at their last dual meet against Hempstead.
The meet started off with a first place win in the 200 medley relay consisting of Maria Rosario, Asia Johnson, Susana Rivas-Zavala and Chauna Pervis. Other first places were captured by Gladis Ruiz-Pacheco in both of her individual events, the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, along with Adesewa "Kenny" Akinola in the 100-yard freestyle.
"The girls worked hard all season long and it showed during this meet!" stated Jon Geller, assistant coach of the team.
Along with these wins and the many other second places achieved by the girls, the Lady Dragons swam to victory with a score of 51-29!
This is the girls' first win since they started the team in the Fall of 2007. Retaining most of their swimmers from last year and gaining some new talent this year, the team has grown in size as well as ability. "We are thrilled about the growth of the team and this win! This is the first of many to come in the future," says the coach of the team, Patty Mueller.
The Lady Dragons participated in Division Championships at Eisenhower Park Oct. 28 and hope to move on to compete in the County Championships on Nov. 7-8, also at Eisenhower Park.
Good luck girls and congratulations to:
