On Sept. 21, members of the Albertson Hook and Ladder, Engine and Hose Company No. 1, attended the 3rd Annual Long Island Volunteer Firefighter's Day at the New Fireman's Home in Hudson. Long Island day at the Fireman's Home has volunteers from both Nassau and Suffolk in attendance and is run by the Suffolk County Volunteer Fireman's Association and the Executive Council of Firematic Associations of Nassau County.
The event included a short parade onto the grounds and a service afterward. Two members of Albertson participated in the Freeport Fire Department Color Guard, along with other firefighters from both counties. Albertson ex-Chief Jose DaRocha introduced the Nassau County Officials, many of whom made presentations. One of the presentations was made by Captain Bryan Strauss of the Mineola Junior Fire Department.
Members of the Albertson Fire Company in attendance included Firefighters Tom Snopkowski, Michael Mastrangelo, Donald McMahon, Donald McMahon III, Alfonse Marchia, Evan Slattery and Walter Frame.
Several members of the Albertson Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary were also in attendance, those being Jean Markowski, Jane Valla and Barbara Wasielewski.
The Fireman's Home was originally built in 1894 and continues with a new state-of-the-art facility. The Fireman's Home is located on 122 acres overlooking the Hudson River in Hudson, NY and is the only nursing home in New York State devoted to caring for Volunteer Firefighters, who require 24-hour medical and nursing care. The Home also has an extensive Firefighting Museum that covers over 300 years of firefighting history in New York State.
