Opinion

(Editor's Note: This letter to the editor was originally sent to Levittown Superintendent of Schools Dr. Herman Sirois and is being printed here at the author's request.)

As a follow-up to an earlier letter - again this weekend on Sunday morning I was at the Division Ave. track. What a beautiful job was done (though I don't agree that it was needed); however, after the football team used it this weekend the mess under the grandstand and the other bleachers was disgusting. There were still some bottles and other mess (tape from the players, etc.) on the field - certainly not as much as other weeks but still the taxpayers should not have to pay for this cleanup.

Again I'll mention my suggestion for saving taxpayers money - that the parents club and the players should be in charge of cleaning up and making sure that the area stays as beautiful as what the taxpayers expect. There are plenty of trash pails - the maintenance folks should be emptying these and not picking up things that are just tossed on the ground or stuck in the fence (when a trash can is just a few feet away). This should go for all of the teams. If the teams can't or won't comply then they should be denied use of the facilities. The use of these facilities is a privilege and not a right. The maintenance folks have real maintenance things to do and cleaning up after slobs is not one of them.

The taxpayers should come first - and the school district should be making certain that our money is spent appropriately and not wasted.
