Thanks but no thanks. On July 29, the Town of North Hempstead Board, unanimously, voted and adopted on the same date a resolution eliminating the Mother/Daughter zoning and creating "Accessory Apartments." What this simply means is that homeowners can rent space to 3 un-related occupants in their one family home. Homeowners will need to provide 2 additional off street parking spaces. Think of all those cars, SUVs and/or vans' congestion and toxic fumes...all this and reassessment. Our suburban quality of life and the character of our one family community have been adversely impacted without taxpayers' knowledge and input. Community knowledge and input means the entire community... from the northern tier of Great Neck to the southern tier of New Cassel. This is our community of North Hempstead, not the five that were present at the July 29 meeting supporting this resolution. We do not know if they are even taxpayers in our community. We do know that they represent the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock. How did they know about this and the community at large didn't? It is quite apparent that the people who should have been notified were not...the people who are most affected...simply, the people who are going to pay for this...you and I, the taxpayers of the Town of North Hempstead. Be mindful, those of you in the incorporated villages who have Mother/Daughter zoning will still pay for this new zoning along with your unincorporated counterparts. At the Aug. 19 Town Board Meeting, where an overwhelming turnout of non-supporting residents, were assured by Supervisor Kaiman that a town-wide mailing, to include unincorporated, incorporated areas; civics; and school districts, inviting them to attend a Special Meeting. Many of us have and continue to make sacrifices to remain in our homes. We will not compromise the quality of life we've come to enjoy. We expect nothing less and will not settle for anything less. Let's all rally in support to repeal this resolution...Attend the Special Meeting on Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in New Hyde Park Memorial High School, 500 Leonard Blvd. New Hyde Park (across from Michael J. Tully Park on Evergreen Avenue).
